Job Search Workshop (JSW)

Job Search Workshops are designed to prepare you for the Canadian job market. They will help you access labour market information and answer your questions about Canadian hiring practices. This week-long series of half-day workshops is offered online in English and French. 

What will I learn?

You will refine your job search skills, develop a personalized action plan and learn about strategies that will help you integrate into the labour market in Canada.  

  • What are my skills?

  • How do I promote myself? 
  • How do I meet people? 
  • How do I get hired? 

Workshop Outline

Day 1: Professional Skills, Story Telling, Accomplishments 

Day 2: Canadian Employers, The Labour Market 

Day 3: Resumes, Cover Letters, Social Media 

Day 4: Networking, Informational Interviews 

Day 5: Job Interviews, Action Plan 

Additional Supports

  • Needs assessment by trained assessors 
  • Pre-employment workshops conducted in a computerized environment 
  • Learn about job search strategies and Canadian workplace culture 
  • One-on-one job search coaching with specialists who understand the job search needs of newcomers 
  • Access to additional workshops on relevant topics including Intercultural Canadian Workplace, Public Speaking and Presentation Skills, Self-care and Well-being in Career Development, Self-leadership in your Job Search, and Transferable Skills. Your Pathway to a New Career 
  • Referrals to additional supports and employment programs including Ociso Career Mentorship 

Is this for me?

Eligibility criteria

  • Permanent resident, convention refugee, or live-in caregiver 
  • Resident of Ottawa 
  • Intermediate level of English (CLB 5+)
