Ottawa U Refugee Fundraising Dinner

University of Ottawa Global Health “Annual Refugee Fundraiser”
March 1, 2018

Fundraising update: $4351 raised, with thanks from everyone at OCISO!

It is my absolute honour to announce our official handover of a total raised, $4351.45 to Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization. I am tremendously proud of our team, the Faculty of Medicine Global Health Committee, for being able to make such an impact. This organization plans to direct these funds towards their highest needs clients, towards social, financial, emergency, and mental health services and counselling.

Again, please accept my sincerest gratitude, for being a part of our evening. Without your contributions, enthusiasm, and support, our success would not have been imaginable.

Warmest regards,
Syeda Shanza Hashmi
Vice President Global Health, Chair of Global Health Committee

University of Ottawa medical students giving back to the community:

“As we are so privileged to receive medical education here in Canada, we are looking to give back and advocate on behalf of our community, together and united as a student body.”

Guest speakers include two Ottawa professionals with extensive refugee, immigration and humanitarian experience: lawyer Michael Bossin and family physician Dr Joanne Perry. And Hadi Wess will be speaking too. Hadi had to leave Syria in 2011, and is now the President of the Student Federation of the University of Ottawa (SFUO).

Guest speakers will focus on the importance of photo journalism, legal consideration of rights, as well as the allocation of fair and accessible health care services to refugees that immigrate to Canada.

Great food, engaging speakers and exciting live performances, such as modern African style dance!
