“I sincerely hope one day I could come back to OCISO mentorship program and work as a great mentor like Clement to help newcomers.” – Joy Lu, OCISO mentee.
Joy Lu moved to Canada from China in July of 2018. As an experienced HR Administrator and Supply Management professional with a Bachelors in Business Administration Management, she was hoping to scout out work for herself in her desired industry.
Joy joined OCISO’s Mentorship Program in August 2018 so that she could find a professional person who could coach her and help her in widening her reach and presentation to potential employers. She was matched with Clement Chan, who works for the Government of Canada and has successfully mentored other mentees.
Joy said: “The mentorship program from OCISO works perfect for me. All the mentorship facilitators at OCISO are very professional and helpful, they match the mentor and mentee in a highly efficient and harmonious manner.”
Joy and Clement met every week over coffee to discus Joy’s job search. Clement provided invaluable knowledge when it came to helping Joy work on her resume, develop professional networks, interview tips and insight into the Canadian workplace culture in order to make her job search more successful.
With the joint efforts of Joy and Clement, Joy secured work in 3 months with Ross Video as a Procurement Specialist which was within her profession.
Joy said: “I’m highly appreciative for all the support and help I got from Clement. He enabled me to have a good start to my new chapter of life in Canada. I will share my experience with the people around me and hope this will be helpful for them as well.
