OCISO has been providing comprehensive social services to immigrants and refugees in the Ottawa community since 1978. OCISO supports immigrants through the journey of making Canada their home by providing creative and responsive programs that are culturally and linguistically appropriate, by building community through mutual respect and partnerships, and by fostering healthy and inclusive spaces for open dialogue and healing.

What is the Board of Directors?
OCISO is governed and guided by a Board of Directors who are responsible for setting strategic direction, providing sound financial management, and hiring, supporting, and advising the Executive Director. The Board is made up of community members who are committed to advancing the mission and vision of the organization. The Board seeks to be reflective of the diversity of the Ottawa community while providing a balanced range of professional skills and resources on which the organization can draw for support and guidance. Some of our current recruiting priorities are in the areas of fundraising, finance, law, and business community liaison.

Responsibilities
Board members serve renewable terms of two years. Short of becoming a full Board member, there may be opportunities to participate at a less intensive level as a member of a committee. Meetings are generally held six times per year for two hours in the evening, and Board members typically attend selected committee meetings and other OCISO events as well throughout the year.
