Public Education

PE-pic-6

OCISO’s community-based approach to public education promotes the principles, policies and practices of anti-racism, anti-oppression, equity, and access through cooperation with staff, volunteers, other organizations, and the broader public. Using this framework, OCISO engages in an ongoing development and implementation of cross cultural trainings, initiatives and activities to promote positive public engagement around immigrant and refugee issues.

In collaboration with OCISO's Multicultural Liaison Officers working at four Ottawa school boards, we develop and implement workshops on intercultural understanding and anti-racism in Ottawa schools. This facilitates a process for increasing immigrant parents’ capacity to support their children’s academic and social development.

The program helps to build bridges and ease the process of cultural transition for immigrants by fostering a welcoming and understanding community, through:

•    Cross cultural training schools, mainstream organizations, businesses, community associations, etc.
•    Workshops at schools, mainstream organizations, businesses, community associations, etc.
•    Presentations at schools, mainstream organizations, businesses, community associations, etc.
•    Training Materials
•    Public engagement events
